One of the issues with the existing streets is that they are not aesthetically pleasing and create unfriendly dividers throughout the community. McEagle's goal is to improve existing streets and create new where necessary to reconnect the original street grid. The vision is to create green, well-maintained thoroughfares while providing friendlier access for pedestrians and bicyclists with wider sidewalks and off-street bike lanes. Many of the improvements also include street medians, which improve pedestrian crossings and allow for native plantings, street trees and stormwater management systems.
The image to the right shows the current state of Parnell Street at N. Jefferson Avenue - the street is very wide and unfriendly to walking, biking and new development. The second image shows that, with the addition of a median, this street allows for extensive landscaping, pedestrian crossings, and stormwater management, while still carrying the traffic load efficiently and allowing for new development to be successful.
