The redevelopment area includes two interchange-related projects. To the left, you will see images of both the proposed interchange at Interstate 64/Highway 40 at S. 22nd Street and the Extension to the New Mississippi River Bridge Interchange (MRB) at Interstate 70.

The proposed interchange at I-64/US 40 and S. 22nd Street will replace the existing service interchange and provide full entry and exit to and from I-64 at 22nd Street, thus improving traffic circulation and access to downtown St. Louis, Union Station, and the businesses and residences in the area.  This proposal also makes nearly 30 acres of unused land surrounding the existing interchange available for development.  Along the downtown portion of I-64/US 40, this will be the only place that a person can get on and off the highway in the same location.

The proposed Extension to the MRB at Interstate 70 is in addition to two projects already funded and being designed in the area:  MoDOT’s proposed MRB interchange and the City of St. Louis realignment of N. Tucker Boulevard. These designs have been aligned to directly connect Illinois to Missouri and the MRB to downtown.  Although the implementation of these two projects provides enhanced access to the downtown area, there will still not be a direct connection to the NorthSide area.  Therefore, in addition to these projects, two additional off ramps to the MRB interchange and a new Mullanphy Street realignment and bridge over the MRB Landing have been proposed.  This Extension will provide a direct connection for west-bound traffic to the NorthSide as well as provide an alternative route for eastbound traffic to access the MRB interchange.
