The vision for the NorthSide project is to transform a distressed area in the region’s urban core into a model for new concepts in integrated mobility, green infrastructure, sustainability, livability and network connectivity. Realizing this vision in this area will enhance the City’s economic competitiveness and sustainability, and set the stage for similar visions to be realized in other parts of the city.
The vision for the overall redevelopment area includes two new highway interchange-related projects to make access to the area more efficient and to make the area more readily accessible, a more sustainable energy infrastructure including plans for district energy generation, a stormwater treatment system, a fixed-guideway trolley to enhance mobility and connectivity, approximately seventeen (17) miles of green streets, approximately twenty (20) miles of bicycle and pedestrian “greenways”, approximately fifty-one (51) acres of new public parks, and a number of new public use buildings. The proposed development includes dense urban mixed use office, retail and residential space, and new and renovated single and multi-family housing.
